This special issue of Studies in American Jewish Literature, a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to analyzing the subject of Jewishness in American literatures, is devoted to Canadian Jewish writing. The issue includes scholarly essays by Zachary Abram on A.M. Klein’s symbolic novel The Second Scroll; Sara R. Horowitz on memory and landscape in Anne Michaels’s The Winter Vault and Nancy Richler’s The Imposter Bride; Kathleen Kellett on the father-daughter relationship and the dynamics of mourning in the biofiction of Régine Robin; Josh Lambert on the radio shows, podcasts, and performances of David Rakoff and Jonathan Goldstein; Shana Rosenblatt Mauer on the representation of female characters in the novels of Mordecai Richler; Goldie Morgentaler on Jewish-Polish relations in the novels of Chava Rosenfarb; Ruth Panofsky on the use and meaning of Canada in novels by Susan Glickman, Nancy Richler, and Rhea Tregebov; and Emily Robins Sharpe on the Spanish Civil War novels of Ted Allan and Charles Yale Harrison.

 

The essays in this special issue partake of the vibrant critical discussion surrounding Canadian Jewish writing and seek to expand the scholarly parameters of a vital field of study.
